I was so excited to get #bookmail again!!! You all know how much I love mysteries and thrillers, and so I was ecstatic when an advance copy of Saint X arrived in the mail - right up my alley!! Saint X is not only the mystery of what happened to Alison, but also the story of her family and those impacted by her death. One winter break, Alison and her family are on their yearly beach trip (we just got 3 inches of snow and I found myself wishing I was on that beach!!). Alison is young and has charisma - even her 7 year old sister, Claire, recognizes the special effect that Alison has on everybody that she meets. Then Alison is gone. Nobody is quite sure how to handle the situation, and much of the rest of the book is focused on how different characters are impacted by Alison’s death, how they process her death, and their search for answers. I loved Saint X!! I felt transported to the beach at the beginning with the vivid imagery, and really felt a connection to the characters from the beginning. The mystery of what happened to Alison hooked me, and I couldn’t put this one down!! Later in the book, I felt that there was a significant focus on peripheral characters and how Alison’s death impacted them. As some of these characters weren’t introduced until later on, I didn’t feel as much of a connection with them and felt that this section could have been a little shorter. I enjoyed seeing Claire grow up and seeing how she changed, as well as how she didn’t. I also appreciate the perspective shift that Claire had as an adult, when she realized why her parents made some of the choices that they did in dealing with Alison’s death.
Saint X was an intriguing mystery! Thank you #CeladonReads #partners for the opportunity to read and review this one!! #ReadSaintX!! Coming to a bookstore near you on February 18, 2020, or use the link below to preorder on Amazon.
