Behind Every Lie is a fast paced, multi-layered thriller that you’ll be staying up late to finish! I couldn’t put this one down! I liked Christina McDonald’s first book, The Night Olivia Fell, but enjoyed this one even more.

Eva is living a relatively normal life. She has her share of trauma in her past, but has moved on and has her art, the studio she rents, and fiancé. Until the day that she wakes up in the hospital to discover that she had been struck by lightning, her mother has been murdered, and she is the prime suspect. Eva must unravel the tangled web of lies that her family wove in their attempts to protect her before it is all too late.

Behind Every Lie is very fast paced, and I couldn’t put it down! Each lie that Eva unravels leads to another, and Christina McDonald did an amazing job of tying each thread together by the end. The story is told from 2 alternating points of view - Eva today, and her mother, Kat, from 25 years ago. The unveiling of key events is done nicely while jumping back and forth between the two narrators and times. Eva and those around her have even more tragic lives than originally anticipated, and each turn brings a new surprise. It could have been too much drama for one storyline, except that the author manages to wrap everything neatly together by the end and all the pieces fell into place.

Christina McDonald does not disappoint with her 2nd novel - if anything, it was more fast paced and thriller than her first. I’m eagerly anticipating the book she has in the works! Thanks to #SimonandSchuster and #NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book early!!
